Greg Wells, AICP

Director | Development Services Division

Greg Wells heads the Development Division of Strategy Planning Associates. His work focuses on downtown revitalization, mixed-use and commercial market feasibility studies, development strategy, fiscal impact, and economic development studies in addition to expert testimony and direct consulting responsibilities.

Prior to joining us, Mr. Wells worked on numerous housing, real estate and economic development projects in Southeast Michigan. His interests center on how issues of community building, and economic revitalization can be addressed through real estate development and urban design. He worked on economic revitalization projects ranging from “place-making” efforts surrounding a neglected downtown river, to redevelopment of an obsolete parking structure into mixed-use residential and commercial units for a local Downtown Development Authority. Much of his work was in Detroit where he contributed to the creation of a Housing Strategy for the City’s Planning and Development Department, performed real estate feasibility studies of housing and commercial redevelopment in blighted city areas, and was the coordinator of the Seventh Annual University of Michigan Detroit Design Charrette in Eastern Market.

Mr. Wells holds a Master of Urban Planning (MUP) degree from the University of Michigan, with a concentration in Housing, Community and Economic Development. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University and spent 10 years as a designer before leaving his creative director position to pursue his interests in urban planning.

Mr. Wells sits on the Board of Directors of the North West Housing Partnership, a non-profit housing organization in suburban Chicago. He is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Greg is an active member of the APA (American Planning Association), ULI (Urban Land Institute) and the ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers).

Primary Responsibilities: Management, development strategy, commercial and mixed-use feasibility studies, and fiscal and economic impact studies.
